I believe that every child and family deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported during times of change. Whether I am providing therapy, preparing a Voice of the Child Report, or conducting a parenting assessment, my goal is to create a thoughtful, collaborative, and child-focused process that helps families move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

As a Registered Social Worker with a PhD in Religion, Ethics, and Public Life and a Master of Social Work specializing in children and families, I have dedicated my career to supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families through complex personal and family transitions.

My work is guided by three core principles:

Thoughtful assessments. Every family has a unique story. I take the time to understand each family's circumstances and provide balanced, impartial, and carefully considered assessments that support informed decision-making.

Compassionate therapy. Therapy offers an opportunity to better understand ourselves, strengthen relationships, and develop practical strategies for change. I work collaboratively with clients to create a supportive environment where they feel safe, respected, and empowered.

Child-focused care. Children deserve to have their voices heard and their experiences understood. Whether I am meeting with a child in therapy or preparing a family law report, I remain focused on promoting children's wellbeing while supporting the adults who care for them.

Professional Experience

My clinical practice includes individual therapy, child and adolescent therapy, family therapy, Voice of the Child Reports, parenting assessments, parenting coordination, mediation, and screenings for power imbalances and family violence.

I have extensive experience working with families experiencing separation and divorce, parenting disputes, family conflict, abuse, anxiety, trauma, relationship concerns, and significant life transitions. Throughout my career, I have worked in community agencies, private practice, and family law settings, supporting children and families through some of the most challenging periods of their lives.

I also provide clinical investigation services through the Office of the Children's Lawyer and have worked as a Trauma Therapist at Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre, experiences that continue to strengthen my understanding of children's needs within both therapeutic and legal contexts.

Education

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Religion, Ethics, and Public Life (Northwestern University)

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) in Children and Their Families (University of Toronto)

  • Master of Science (MSc) in Animals and Public Policy (Tufts University)

  • Registered Social Worker (RSW), Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

My education has provided a strong foundation in child development, family systems, trauma, mental health, ethics, and evidence-informed practice. I remain committed to ongoing professional development to ensure my work reflects current research and best practices.

My Approach

Every family has its own story, strengths, and challenges. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, I take the time to understand each family's unique circumstances and goals.

Clients and referral sources often appreciate my calm, balanced, and thoughtful style. I value careful listening, clear communication, professionalism, and collaboration. Whether I am providing therapy or conducting an assessment, I strive to create a respectful process where people feel genuinely heard while maintaining a focus on children's wellbeing and best interests.

I believe that the strongest outcomes occur when people feel safe enough to be honest, respected enough to feel heard, and supported enough to move forward.

Working with Professionals

I regularly collaborate with lawyers, physicians, psychologists, schools, and other professionals involved in supporting children and families. I understand the importance of timely communication, professional integrity, and well-reasoned opinions, and I value collaborative working relationships that promote the best possible outcomes for children.

Research, Teaching, and Leadership

In addition to my clinical work, I have contributed to research, university teaching, professional leadership, and community initiatives throughout my career. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to ethical practice, lifelong learning, and improving services for children and families.

I founded and managed SafePet Ontario, a registered Canadian charity, for nearly a decade. The organization helps survivors of family violence and human trafficking access safety by arranging temporary care for their companion animals while they escaped abusive situations. This work reinforced my commitment to trauma-informed practice, non-violence, and supporting families during times of crisis.

Outside the Office

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy running, exploring Ontario's parks and trails, travelling, and spending time with animals of all shapes and sizes. Being outdoors helps me stay grounded and brings balance to the work I do with clients and families.
